RedSky’s 2019 regional roadshows are running until 5 June – here we provide a user’s viewpoint on the many benefits of attending. Have you booked yet?
At CONNECT On the Road 2019, Martina McArdle, Company Accountant at mac-group, picked up some great tips from other Summit users on how to use the software to solve business process issues. She said: “The roadshows are ideal for discovering simpler ways to do things.
“For example, some RedSky clients were explaining how they were using an ‘import’ to pull direct debits into the system, whereas we manually enter them onto the Purchase Ledger. I logged a call with RedSky this week and someone came back to me quickly, to pass it onto the relevant department to look at setting it up.”
The On the Road agenda also included the RedSky team providing an overview of two major legislative changes: Making Tax Digital and Reverse Charge VAT. Martina said: “It was good to get an understanding of how the processes are going to change; how RedSky has developed the programme to facilitate those changes; and what we as users will need to do at our end. It was also reassuring to know that RedSky is continuously making other improvements that aren’t demanded by the Government.”
For Martina, attending the roadshow wasn’t just about absorbing information. She was also very happy to give fellow Summit users the benefit of her experience: “We’re about a year and a half into using the Invoice Register, so I was able to explain to other roadshow attendees how simple the process is, how it works and how it can improve office life – there’s no need for paper invoices and it’s so easy to access the information in the system.
“I could also advise them about the Subcontractor Valuation module, which has been another great addition in streamlining our process. Prior to having that, we were doubling up on work: the QSs were creating the certificates on Excel and forwarding it to us, and then Finance had to manually enter them onto Summit. It’s much more straightforward with the Subcontractor Valuation module, as the QSs now inputs the certificate information directly onto the system.”
So would Martina recommend other RedSky users to attend their local regional roadshow? “It takes up a full day but it’s definitely worth going, and taking the time away from the office, even if it’s just to speak to other users,” she said.
“Day to day, you don’t always have time to sit down and figure out how to improve the way you do certain things. But by talking to other people who are already operating the software in a different way, you can get some good practical suggestions from them.
“Of course, if you’re considering whether to implement a new piece of software, speaking to others can also set your mind at ease that the benefits down the line will be worthwhile.”
