If you’re overwhelmed with construction paperwork, follow the CIOB report’s recommendation by introducing labour-saving technologies. It’s time to ditch the paper and find the data…
Recently, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) published The Real Face of Construction 2020 report. It argues that the impact of the construction sector on the UK economy is actually far more substantial and wide-ranging than official figures suggest.
The report makes very interesting reading. In the Recommendations section, it states: “There is growing pressure for the construction sector to undergo a major reshaping, changing its focus from lowest cost to highest value and to increase its uptake of labour-saving technologies.”
And that emphasis on finding new ways to drive value through the organisation really struck a chord with the RedSky team. Because that’s exactly what our construction-specific, enterprise resource planning (ERP) software delivers.
Oldham-based specialist fit-out, refurb and new-build contractor Medlock FRB Limited is one of the latest construction organisations to benefit from RedSky’s award-winning digital solution. Last year, Finance Director Colin Drury was becoming increasingly aware that his site managers were overburdened with red tape and paperwork requirements. “We noticed that they were spending less and less time building the job and more and more time completing manual forms,” he said.
Colin recognised that the most cost-effective solution to this growing problem was to digitise data capture on-site, so he decided to switch to RedSky’s Mobile Forms technology. Whereas Medlock’s site managers used to fill out paper copies and send them to head office by post, they now complete new, customised forms via a RedSky App on their mobile or tablet device while walking around the site. And with just the touch of a button, they can submit the data electronically to head office.
Colin said: “The biggest plus point has been freeing up our site managers to spend quality time on site. Everyone is now using the same format throughout the business. Having uniform data to work with when we’re filtering, sorting and analysing means that we can monitor and review the stats more efficiently.”
RedSky Head of Account Management Simon Hague said: “In the current climate, with budgets increasingly stretched, more and more construction companies are looking to digitise their manual processes, to speed up their processes and procedures and add lasting value to the business. RedSky software provides a practical, user-friendly ERP solution for the construction sector that achieves all of these objectives… and much more besides.”
