“It couldn’t have gone any more smoothly…”

Having used RedSky’s legacy AXiM system for more than 15 years, it was high time for Walters Group to migrate to the latest system. Group Financial Controller and Human Resources Manager Gary Jones said: “We were getting to the point where we needed to be able to access data more quickly and efficiently.”

Gary’s team did extensive testing in the lead-up to the migration, which as a result progressed without a hitch. “It couldn’t have gone any more smoothly really,” he said. “We turned off AXiM one day, then turned on the new system the next day and carried on. We had no downtime whatsoever with business operations.”

Thirteen months on and Gary is very impressed: “For us, the migration has been a huge success. It has brought the business into the 21st century in terms of access to data. Business Analytics has completely changed the way that our QS team operates. They no longer have to close down the month-end and print out all available reports on the costs for each project, because they have access to the data on a daily basis and in a user-friendly format.

“We have the Invoice Register too, so if they want to find out about a particular cost, they simply click on the paper clip symbol to see a copy of the emailed or scanned invoice. The combination of Business Analytics and the Invoice Register means they have all the information they need at their fingertips, so they no longer contact the office with queries on costs.

“From a QS perspective, the new system has been a game-changer because they now have full visibility of – and responsibility for – costs on a daily basis.”

The next step for Walters Group will be to implement Purchase Order Processing. “We’re kick-starting it at the end of this week,” said Gary. “During the next few months, we’ll be moving all 6,000 product lines from Excel spreadsheets into the RedSky system. We are hopeful that we’ll be able to go live in the first week of January 2021.”

Established in 1982, Walters Group is a Wales-based family business that provides civil engineering and development services across a range of industry sectors. It also operates and maintains the largest independently owned heavy plant fleet in the UK, supported by its own dedicated operators and maintenance facilities.
